6100 High Speed Internet Coaxial Distribution System

6100 BG30x Broadband Gateway - Datasheet

A thin server, the BG30x Broadband Gateway™ is the link between the network provider and each individual PC user in the installed site. The Broadband Gateway performs the functions of a router, as well as those of a switch.

Features

  • Single Gateway Supports 256 Users

  • 36 megabits downstream, 12/24 upstream

  • Faster Processor

  • Redundant Power Supplies

Aggregate Internet Usage To A Single Connection

The Broadband Gateway effectively distributes its single Internet connection to each individual user in the installed property, accommodating up to 256 users per Gateway. Building owners maintain maximum choice, since the Gateway was designed to support any 10/100BaseT Ethernet connection technology (e.g., cable modem, xDSL, fiber, or wireless). System setup can include more than one type of connection to supply both redundancy and network provider options for the end user.

Because the building now requires only a single connection to a network provider for complete coverage, installation and ongoing support is considerably simplified for end users, building management and the service provider.

Server Design

coaXmedia's Broadband Gateway features a slim design that requires minimum space in a building's telecom closet or basement. The device is built on an embedded platform, running a custom tailored operating system, which provides speed and reliability. The Broadband Gateway, designed to operate like a router or switch, simplifies implementation in a heterogeneous network environment.

The coaXmedia Server Card provides connectivity to the end users via the SandDollar™ Access Appliance. In conjunction with the software that runs on the Broadband Gateway, this card handles the transmission and receipt of every packet traveling in and out of the coaxial building network, and discovery and recognition of new SandDollars.

SandDollar™ SDX30 Access Appliance - Datasheet

The SandDollar™ SDX30 Access Appliance is a simple device designed for placement in each user's apartment or room to facilitate access to the Internet or selected network over the in-building coaxial wiring. The SandDollar™ can be easily installed by the end-user at their leisure - no technical support required. Installation kits come with complete instructions, coaxial and PC connector cables.

Features

  • Small device

  • Brackets for secure install

  • Ethernet Connectivity

Easy User Setup

No need to wait for a technician to install client equipment; customers can be online in minutes, upon receipt of a coaXmedia SandDollar Access Appliance. Each SandDollar comes packaged with a quick setup guide, power adaptor, coaxial and Ethernet cables, as well as a splitter or diplexer. Installation merely involves attaching the provided cables and power cord to the appropriate outlets. Once the SandDollar is properly connected and powered up, the Broadband GatewayTM will recognize, register, and enable the Access Appliance; easier to install than a VCR. Most users can complete their entire installation process in less than 15 minutes - at a time that is convenient to them.

Designed To Perform

The SandDollar is an integral part of the Series 6100 solution, designed to offer simple installation, plug and play operation, and eliminate the need for special PC software or configurations. Customers only need a standard 10BaseT or 10/100BaseT Ethernet card connected to a SandDollar to open the door to a world of broadband. And with system level controls embedded into each SandDollar, service providers can control the maximum amount of bandwidth each customer can use; as well as remotely monitor for cable integrity. The system even includes patented security services to provide an additional level of comfort and protection for each customer's data transmissions.

SD23x Wireless Access Appliance - Datasheet

The SD23x Wireless Access Appliance version of the coaXmedia ® SandDollar connects to the internal coaXmedia enabled coaxial network. This wireless SandDollar will provide Wi-Fi functionality (802.11B) to support the deployment of wireless connectivity in common areas such as conference rooms, meeting rooms and recreation areas within the hotel complex.

Features

  • Targeted for hot-spot and conference room applications in the hospitality sector

  • 802.11b

  • Uses coax within the building as a distribution network while connecting to the end-user PC wirelessly

By using the coaXmedia combination of wired and wireless access technology, end-users will be able to connect through a wired connection in their individual rooms and have wireless access in the common areas. The wireless SandDollar will provide the functionality of an 802.11b access point while using the internal coaxial as the bidirectional path to the service provider.

Wireless users can use the same applications they use on a wired network. Wireless adapter cards used on a laptop and desktop systems, support the same protocols as Ethernet adapter cards. For most users, there is no noticeable functional difference between a wired Ethernet desktop computer and a wireless computer equipped with a wireless adapter.
The IEEE802.11b standard-based technology assures that the coaXmedia SandDollar wireless access point is interoperable with existing compatible 2.4GHz wireless technology. This means hotel guests will be able to transfer large files quickly or even watch a movie in MPEG format over the network without noticeable delays.
