Product Overview
The Cisco 2800 Series comprises four new platforms (refer to Figure
1): the Cisco 2801, the Cisco 2811, the Cisco 2821, and the Cisco 2851.
The Cisco 2800 Series provides significant additional value compared to
prior generations of Cisco routers at similar price points by offering up
to a fivefold performance improvement, up to a tenfold increase in
security and voice performance, new embedded service options, and
dramatically increased slot performance and density while maintaining
support for most of the more than 90 existing modules that are available
today for the Cisco 1700, Cisco 2600, and Cisco 3700 Series.
The Cisco 2800 Series features the ability to deliver multiple
high-quality simultaneous services at wire speed up to multiple T1/E1/xDSL
connections. The routers offer embedded encryption acceleration and on the
motherboard voice digital-signal-processor (DSP) slots; intrusion
prevention system (IPS) and firewall functions; optional integrated call
processing and voice mail support; high-density interfaces for a wide
range of connectivity requirements; and sufficient performance and slot
density for future network expansion requirements and advanced
applications.

Security has become a fundamental building block of any network.
Routers play an important role in any network defense strategy because
security needs to be embedded throughout the network. The Cisco 2800
Series features advanced, integrated, end-to-end security for the delivery
of converged services and applications. With the Cisco IOS® Software
Advanced Security feature set, the Cisco 2800 provides a robust array of
common security features such as a Cisco IOS Software Firewall, intrusion
prevention, IPsec VPN, Secure Shell (SSH) Protocol Version 2.0, and Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMPv3) in one secure solution set.
Additionally, by integrating security functions directly into the router
itself, Cisco can provide unique intelligent security solutions other
security devices cannot, such as network admissions control (NAC) for
antivirus defense; Voice and Video Enabled VPN (V3PN) for
quality-of-service (QoS) enforcement when combining voice, video, and VPN;
and Dynamic Multipoint VPN (DMVPN) and Easy VPN for enabling more scalable
and manageable VPN networks. In addition, Cisco offers a range of security
acceleration hardware such as the intrusion-prevention network modules and
advanced integration modules (AIM) for encryption, making the Cisco 2800
Series the industry's most robust and adaptable security solution
available for branch offices. Using a Cisco 2800 Series uniquely enables
customers to deliver concurrent, mission-critical data, voice, and video
applications with integrated, end-to-end security at wire-speed
performance.
Converged IP Communications
The Cisco 2800 Series can meet the IP Communications needs of
small-to-medium sized business and enterprise branch offices while
concurrently delivering an industry-leading level of security within a
single routing platform. Cisco CallManager Express (CME) is an optional
solution embedded in Cisco IOS Software that provides call processing for
Cisco IP phones. This solution is for customers with data-connectivity
requirements interested in deploying a converged IP telephony solution for
up to 72 IP phones and-as of Cisco IOS 12.3(11) release-for up to 96 IP
phones. With the Cisco 2800 Series, customers can securely deploy data,
voice, and IP telephony on a single platform for their small-to-medium
sized branch offices, helping them to streamline their operations and
lower their network costs. The Cisco 2800 Series with optional Cisco CME
support offers a core set of phone features that customers require for
their everyday business needs and takes advantage of the wide array of
voice capabilities that are embedded in the Cisco 2800 Series (as shown in
Table 1) together with optional features available in Cisco IOS Software
to provide a robust IP telephony offering for the small to medium-sized
branch-office environment.

Product Overview
The integrated services routing architecture of the Cisco 3800 Series
builds on the powerful Cisco 3700 Series routers designed to embed and
integrate security and voice processing with advanced services for rapid
deployment of new applications, including application layer functions,
intelligent network services, and converged communications. The Cisco 3800
Series supports the bandwidth requirements for multiple Fast Ethernet
interfaces per slot, time-division multiplexing (TDM) interconnections,
and fully integrated power distribution to modules supporting 802.3af
Power over Ethernet (PoE), while still supporting the existing portfolio
of modular interfaces. This ensures continuing investment protection to
accommodate network expansion or changes in technology as new services and
applications are deployed. By integrating the functions of multiple
separate devices into a single compact unit, the Cisco 3800 Series
dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of managing remote networks.
New models include the Cisco 3825 and the Cisco 3845, available with three
optional configurations for AC power, AC power with integrated inline
power support, and DC power.
Secure Network Connectivity For Data, Voice, And Video
An important component of the Cisco Self-Defending Network, the Cisco
3800 Series features the industry's most comprehensive security services
embedded and integrated within the router, providing customers with a
single, resilient platform to rapidly deploy secure networks and
applications.
Cisco Integrated Services Router provide advanced security services
and management capabilities such as built-in hardware encryption
acceleration, IPSec, VPN (Advanced Encryption Standard [AES], Triple
Digital Encryption Standard [3DES], DES and Multiprotocol Label Switching
[MPLS]), stateful firewall protection, dynamic intrusion prevention
(Intrusion Prevention System [IPS]), and URL filtering support. Cisco IOS
security feature sets enable all of these rich security features, as well
as applications such as Network Admission Control (NAC), Dynamic
Multipoint VPN (DMVPN), and Voice and Video Enabled VPN (V3PN).
For ease of management and configuration, the 3800 Series also
features the intuitive, Web-based Cisco Router and Security Device Manager

The Cisco 3800 Series meets the IP Communications needs of midsize to
large enterprise branch offices, while delivering industry-leading
security within a single routing platform. By embedding voice services
inside the router, Cisco provides customers with maximum deployment
flexibility, plus higher densities for stations, trunks, and conferencing.
The Cisco 3800 Series routers offer the award-winning Cisco IP
Telephony solution, Cisco CallManager Express (CME), as an optional
feature set embedded within Cisco IOS® Software. This solution is ideal
for customers who want to decrease costs and complexity by converging
voice and data networks. By adding a Cisco Unity™ Express advanced
integration module (AIM) or network module to this solution, small offices
and branch offices can take advantage of a complete, all-in-one data,
voice-processing, voice-mail, and auto-attendant system. For larger,
centralized IP Communications deployments, customers can deploy Survivable
Remote Site Telephony (SRST) in their Cisco 3800 Series routers with a

Cisco 3800 Series routers also feature the widest range of
voice-gateway interfaces, scaling to meet the needs of the smallest to
largest branch requirements for voice termination densities using a
combination of network modules, extension voice modules (EVMs), voice
interface cards (VICs), voice/WAN interface cards (VWICs), and onboard
packet voice DSP modules (PVDMs). Customers have unprecedented scalability
for supporting up to 24 T1/E1 trunks and 88 foreign-exchange-station (FXS)
ports for analog phones, fax machines, key systems, and conference

Integrated Services
Unique integrated services architecture of the Cisco 3800 Series,
customers can now securely deploy IP Communications with traditional IP
routing and still leave the network-module slots available for additional
advanced services. With the optional integration of a wide array of

the functions of standalone network appliances and components into the
Cisco 3800 Series chassis itself. Many of these network modules, such as

Advanced security for data, voice,

The Cisco® 830 Series of secure
broadband routers is ideal for providing secure Internet and corporate
network connectivity to small remote offices and to teleworkers. Cisco 830
Series routers provide a wide range of integrated security services and
advanced quality of service (QoS) features for high-quality data, voice, and
video applications. They offer easy deployment and remote management
features with Cisco IOS® Software.
The Cisco 830 Series is comprised
of the Cisco 831 Ethernet Broadband Router, the Cisco 836 ADSL over ISDN
Broadband Router with an ISDN BRI port, and the Cisco 837 ADSL Broadband
Router. The Cisco 831 router has an Ethernet WAN port for use with an
external digital subscriber line (DSL) or cable modem. The Cisco 836 router

EIGRP and BGP (limited) routing protocols; Cisco Easy VPN Remote (a

security requiring digital certificates; IPSec Network Address
Translation transparency (NAT-T); the Cisco Intrusion Detection System

The advanced QoS and high-performance encryption features offered in

remotely manageable platform, the Cisco 830 Series supports advanced
remote troubleshooting commands available in Cisco IOS Software; a

Models
The Cisco SOHO 90 Series is comprised of the Cisco SOHO 91 Ethernet
Broadband Router, the Cisco SOHO 96 ADSL over ISDN Broadband Router, and
the Cisco SOHO 97 ADSL Broadband Router. The Cisco SOHO 91 router has an
Ethernet WAN port for use with an external DSL or cable modem. An
asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) modem is integrated into the
Cisco SOHO 96 and SOHO 97 routers, with the Cisco SOHO 96 ADSL over ISDN
router supports remote management via a built-in ISDN port, and the Cisco
SOHO 97 router supporting ADSL over POTS. All three models offer a
four-port 10/100 Ethernet LAN switch for connecting multiple PCs or
network devices in a small-office network.
Secure Internet Access
Cisco SOHO 90 Series routers, recommended for up to five users, allow
all users in a small office to share a secure broadband connection with an
integrated stateful-inspection firewall. Corporate teleworkers or small
office users can also take advantage of Cisco SOHO 90 Series routers for
VPN connections to the corporate network. The routers can set up secure
Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) encrypted connections using Cisco
IOS Software or users can initiate VPN tunnels from PC-based VPN clients
on the LAN.
Easy Setup and Deployment
Cisco SOHO 90 Series routers include the Cisco Router Web SetUp Tool (CRWS),
a Web-based configuration tool that allows users to quickly self-install
the router. Because the tool CRWS is Web-based, no additional software is
required on the PC for configuration. Users simply point a browser to the
router and follow a few easy steps to quickly get the router up and
running. Additionally, the Cisco Configuration Express service allows
enterprise or service provider customers who order products direct from
Cisco to have preconfigured Cisco SOHO 90 Series routers shipped from the
manufacturer directly to the end users.
Advanced Management Features for Low Cost of Ownership
To simplify management and reduce ongoing operational costs, Cisco
SOHO 90 Series routers take advantage of many local and remote debug and
troubleshooting features in Cisco IOS Software. The routers support
centralized management and configuration updates with the Cisco CNS 2100
Intelligence Engine management appliance, further reducing operational
costs.
Cisco SOHO 90 Series routers provide the right combination of
integrated security features, a four-port 10/100 Ethernet LAN switch, and
advanced management features to secure broadband connections for
small-office and home-office users. Cisco SOHO 90 Series routers use the
same Cisco IOS Software that is used in large service provider and
enterprise networks, allowing small office users to take advantage of the
proven reliability of Cisco IOS Software. The SOHO 96 router has an
integrated ISDN S/T port for out-of-band management.
